El Dorado 15 Year Finest Demerara Rum

The El Dorado 15 Year Finest Demerara Rum is unique in that it is possibly the only expression to use components from all 3 of the original heritage wooden pot stills and wooden Coffey column used on the great Demerara Sugar Estates of the 18th and 19th centuries in Guyana. El Dorado 15 Year Old is masterfully blended using marques from the Port Mourant (PM) Double Wooden Pot Still, VSG marque from the Versailles Single Wooden Pot Still, EHP Wooden Coffey Still, and the SVW marque from the traditional Diamond Metal Coffey Still. Its unmistakeable taste is achieved from the dominant Port Mourant (PM) Double Wooden Pot Still component, with the Port Mourant Sugar Estate dating back to 1732 according to the producers of El Dorado, Demerara Distillers Limited. The PM Double Wooden Pot Still is famous for producing a ‘heavy’ style rum as was often used in the historic British Royal Navy Rums.

No wonder this was rated the best rum in the world at the International Wine and Spirit Competition, London (IWSC) for four years running from 2006 to 2009 including IWSC “Best Rum in the World” trophy in 2007 — a superb expression. A ‘go-to’ rum for anyone in the know, this extra-aged blend which is at least 15 years old (though some components are much older), delivers the kind of class and complexity you’d expect to pay much, much more for.
